[ maybe while out shopping you ran into someone— literally ran into them, knocking one or the both of you over. a good look at them shows it's a girl, obviously homeless if her general hygiene and the layered and filthy clothes she's wearing are any indication.
or maybe you just found a ten foot long serpentine monstrosity rummaging around in your knocked-over garbage cans. (a girl's gotta eat, all right.)
or maybe something else entirely is going on. go nuts, AUS AND RANDOM BULLSHIT WELCOME
note: magic sensors can tell she's got an affinity/alignment with metal, and also feels basically like something/someone hideously deformed in a horrifying way. ]

whatever the creature is, it freezes at the sound of footsteps and then abruptly withdraws its head from the bin, swinging it around to glare at the girl with slit-pupilled eyes. the body might be somewhat wolflike, but aside from the ears its head is not; the face is a viper's, and so are the enormous fangs it bares in her direction. ]

picking up on her nerves, Dimwit gives a low growl, deep in the throat, but stays by her side. Krista's quiet for a long moment and those fangs make her swallow hard enough to hurt. But she's seen a lot of things that started out looking scary and turned out to be perfectly fine. So she pipes up -- ]
... hello? Are you okay?
no subject
...I'm fine.
[ it's a young woman's voice, raspy and a little low in that way voices get when they aren't used much. ]

How come you're out here in the... [ she trails off, thoughtfully. 'in the trash' sounds a bit rude, so she verbally backspaces before trying again. ] What're you looking for in there?
no subject
I'm looking for something to eat. ...You should go back to bed.
no subject
[ That's a reasonable question, right? She tilts her head, brow furrowed, and looks mightily puzzled. ]
Are you really that hungry? I can bring you something to eat.
[ ignoring the part where she should be in bed!! ]
no subject
I don't want to be a bother.
no subject
It's not a bother. We have lots of food and food needs to get eaten by someone. It'd be better for you to eat some of it instead of whatever's in there.
no subject
...if I eat it, you can't.
no subject
[ ... then again she's kinda big... ]
no subject
I'm big enough that I do need to eat a lot.
[ she can slow herself down the way a snake would, if food is scarce, but that's both unpleasant and nervewracking. there are things even she's afraid of, and if they come after her while she's like that...
...better to make sure it isn't a situation she has to worry about. ]

[ She's trying to work out in her head how much missing food would be incredibly conspicuous next time Opa goes to make something and how much could be explained away by a midnight snack (which would have the bonus of technically being true) ]

I think... Opa would definitely notice if I took that much food.
[ Sadface. ]
Um... I really don't think it's good for you to eat the trash, though... wouldn't you get sick?
no subject
It takes a lot to make me sick.
